National Football Museum
The world’s biggest and best football museum has a unique new home in Manchester.
Why is the museum opening in Manchester?
Thanks to Manchester City Council an exciting opportunity has arisen to relocate the award winning National Football Museum to the prestigious Urbis building. That means even more visitors from home and abroad will be able to enjoy an even better National Football Museum experience. Keep an eye out for our new website coming soon to stay fully informed. www.nationalfootballmuseum.com
How will the Urbis building accommodate the museum?
We’re delighted to have been given such a unique space to create the new museum in. The building work is underway and the designs include everything you’d expect from a world class museum alongside unique opportunities for commercial events in the home of football’s Hall Of Fame, surrounded by the world’s greatest football collection. In addition, The NFM is keen to encourage long term commercial and sponsorship partnerships.
What will I be able to see?
We look after 30’000 objects – boots, balls, shirts, games, ceramics and paintings, enough to fill a football pitch! From the 1966 World Cup winning ball to Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ shirt and more. We’re more than archives and objects though, the museum will include plenty of interactive and ‘hands on’ exhibits too. As the new home of the Homes of Football gallery, featuring the work of photographer Stuart Clarke, we’ll provide a look back at the fan experience and how it impacts on the game. We’ll also be taking a creative approach to a programme of temporary exhibitions that look at the cultural impact of the national game.
Coming soon
Building work is underway and is scheduled for completion in November 2011
